Brian Campbell Endures Rain and Playoff for Second Career PGA Tour Win at the 2025 John Deere Classic

Brian Campbell Endures Rain and Playoff for Second Career PGA Tour Win at the 2025 John Deere Classic

We have yet another multiple-event winner on the PGA Tour in 2025. With a crowded leaderboard at the 2025 John Deere Classic, Brian Campbell emerged victorious after rain and one hole of extra play to beat Emiliano Grillo, who co-led after 72 holes.

It took 18-under for Campbell and Grillo to get to the playoff, then just one extra hole to decide a winner.

It's the second win for the 32-year-old Campbell this season, and for his career. His first win came just five months ago at the Mexico Open in February, where he also won in a playoff, then over Aldrich Potgieter, who just won his first tournament last week at the Rocket Classic in Detroit.

Campbell struggled for those five months, never finishing better than T32. But he now joins Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Ben Griffin, Sepp Straka and Ryan Fox as players to win multiple times this season.

The former Illinois Fighting Illini was just inside the top 60 of the FedEx Cup standings to start the week, but walks away at No. 28 after his win, and for the second year in a row, he'll have an invite to the Masters, the PGA Championship and the Players Championship. If he can finish the season inside the top 50, he'll also gain invites to the BMW Championship and all the signature events in 2026, assuming those still exist by then (let's pray they don't).

Campbell cruised on Sunday after beginning the final round at 14-under, one stroke behind 54-hole leader David Thompson. He nailed a couple of birdies early to keep pace with the competition, but really found his stride after the turn.

Making three birdies in the first four holes of his back nine, he took the lead. But a rare mistake this weekend by Campbell with an errant tee shot on the par-4 No. 15 led to a double-bogey and a tie atop the leaderboard with Grillo.

But Grillo couldn't take advantage and missed a birdie putt and a five-foot par save on No. 14 to drop back a shot behind Campbell.  The pair matched birdies on the 71st hole of the day to match each other's 18-under score.

Campbell dominated the first hole of the playoff, splitting the fairway with his tee shot and then nailing an aggressive approach that finished just 16 feet short of the hole. Meanwhile, Grillo's second shot flew the green and set up an impossible up-and-down.

Grillo made a bogey and Campbell two-putted for par for the win.

Up next is the Genesis Scottish Open from The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, where Robert MacIntyre will hope to defend his emotional win last year. The alternate field event will take place at the ISCO Championship at the Hurstbourne Country Club in Louisville, Kentucky, where Harry Hall will attempt to defend his win from last season.
