Ryan Fox Outduels Sam Burns in Marathon Playoff at 2025 RBC Canadian Open

It took 22 holes of Sunday golf north of the border, but when all was said and done, Ryan Fox was a champion for the second time in four starts.
The 38-year-old New Zealander began Sunday as the co-leader and outlasted Sam Burns in four sudden-death playoff holes for his second PGA Tour win. Burns shot a final-round 62 and fought back from four shots back at the start of the day. He took the lead into the clubhouse at 18-under.
Fox, who was playing in the final pairing, birdied three of his final five holes, including a 17-footer on the par-5 No. 18 as Burns was still staying warm on the driving range nearly two hours after he finished his round with a 62.
The pair played No. 18 twice and were still tied before officials moved the hole location before they played it a third and fourth time. Fox delivered the shot of the day with a 3-wood from 258 yards (that's about 236 meters for you Canadians) that stopped about six feet from the hole.
Burns hit the green too, from 255 out, but ran his long eagle putt well past the hole. Still out, Burns lipped out his birdie putt and ended the hole with a three-putt par.
With no pressure on him to two-putt his remaining five feet, Fox stroked his eagle putt to within tap-in distance for the win. It's Fox's second career win, both this season, as he won the alternate field event in Myrtle Beach before the PGA Championship.
Burns will be re-living some of those playoff shots for a while, but he still landed his best finish of the year.
